What's on Weekend - Grant Property's guide to the weekend

Across the UK, you are recovering from Freshers weeks and getting into the official start of semester. While things are starting to settle down, there is still plenty to do! 

After a long, hard first week of classes, there is lots going on in UK cities this weekend. First up, nobody puts Aberdeen in the corner, as it welcomes Dirty Dancing to the Aberdeen Music Hall this Friday, for a four week run! This is sure to be an evening of entertainment and a fun alternative to the regular student nights!

For those of you in Dundee looking for something other than another night out, it's annual Tour de Tay takes place on Saturday. Grab your friends and take part in the 25 or 50 mile cycle challenge to raise money for scholarships and bursaries - just make sure you’re not out the night before!

We realise that some of you will still be in Freshers mode and there’s still plenty of student nights taking place across the UK. DJ Rankin is live at The Tunnel in Glasgow this Friday for Eat Sleep Rave Repeat while City Nightclub in Falkirk plays host to DJ SASH! on Saturday night for their Club Paradiso summer closing party. 

Over in the capital, The Three Sisters Bar has been transformed into the Official Rugby World Cup Fanzone. Head down there on Saturday and throughout the tournament for the best place to enjoy the World Cup matches. The bar’s courtyard will host special guests, live performances, games and food and drink stalls for the ultimate Rugby World Cup experience.

Last but not least, it’s all happening this Friday in Nottingham as Duke Dumont presents Blasé Boys Club at Ink from 10pm ’til 4am.

Grant Property - What's on this Weekend

The September sun is shining and all across the UK students are settling into University cities. Every week we bring you a guide to what’s on in your city and unsurprisingly there’s on a whole lot of Freshers events happening up and down the country.

Up North Robert Gordon’s University Freshers week’s is just about to kick off. From 2-4 on Saturday there’s £1 burgers at Woolmanhill Halls right beside the town centre and you don’t have to live there to get involved. Then from 11pm the party kicks off with the Full Moon Party at The Garage. 

Freshers week is done and dusted in Dundee but the fun is still going. It’s Doors Open Day in Dundee and time for some more localised cultural fun. On Satutrday it’s PARK(ing) Day on Perth Road – the concept of creating parking space sized public areas and getting more people using public space is coming to the city centre. Follow the worldwide event online at #parkingday 

Stirling Tonight get your headphones on Stirling, it’s the Headphone Disco at Fubar £6 entry & £5 refundable deposit for headphones.

Dance the night away in Glasgow tonight – it’s the messiest night of Freshers. The UV foam party is for Freshers Pass holders only and starts 9pm, Qudos, Queen Margaret Union. 

In Edinburgh it’s Wub Hut at Studio 24 for drum and bass and funk 11 – 3pm tonight, only £5. 


This weekend The University of Nottingham Freshers week kicks off. There’s a get to know your neighbours BBQ The Barn from 6pm on Saturday.

What's on This Weekend where you are!

It's the final night of Aberdeen University and Radio One's Huw Stephens is at Institute – it's just £50 for a group of 8 for queue jump, cloakroom and a bottle of prosecco and vodka too.

In Dundee it's Sin City at Liquid Envy and there's 500 McDonald's Cheeseburgers to give away.

At Scotstoun Glasgow Glasgow Warriors take on Connacht at 7.35pm tonight. Tickets are still available. 

In Stirling Freshers week is kicking off – for freshers moving into halls it's time to pick up the keys and Union J are performing live at the Stirling Students Union on Saturday from 5pm.

The football's on the telly in Edinburgh – as Napier University freshers week comes to an end get along to The Three Sisters on Cowgate. Watch Everton vs Chelsea at 12.45 followed by Manchester United vs Liverpool at 5:30 pm at one of the best beer gardens in town then have get yourself along to Silk for student friendly prices. Remember it's free with a Edinburgh Napier Freshers wristband.

Freshers hasn't kicked off yet so keep soaking up Summer culture from East Midlands Graduate Project, EM15. The show, Here's One We Made Earlier runs at the Surface Gallery in Nottingham until Saturday, 19th September 11am – 5pm.

What's On This Weekend

We're counting down to Freshers week, but until then there's plenty to keep you entertained!

Aberdeen's arty all weekend with the Aberdeen Art Fair kicking off today and running until Sunday 6th September at the Aberdeen Music Hall. 

On Saturday morning in Dundee the city square is hosing a local Pop Up Market in front of the Caird Hall selling everything from food and drink to goodies from local enterprises.
  
Defending champions Glasgow Warriors take on the Welsh Scarlets as the Guiness Pro 12 kicks off again at Scotstoun Stadium, 5.15pm on Saturday. If you can't get a ticket it's on Sky Sports too. 

In Stirling this weekend it's all about the blues on Saturday night at Macrobert ArtsCentre, 7:30pm. The band are fresh from their sell out run at theEdinburgh Festival.

Now that the capital has been reclaimed by the locals there's a gig worth going to and the chance to learn a language too. Inlingua Edinburgh are celebrating their ten year anniversary by offering a Languages and Culture Open Day on Saturday – get a free mini lesson on German, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Turkish and English from noon. After that head along to The Mash House for 7pm on Saturday to catch The Valkarys, Caravan Club and Ayakara – tickets £5.

Glasgow is catering to the foodie market again this weekend – at SWG3 chefs from top Glasgow eateries are offering tasty bites on Saturday and Sunday with Let's Eat Glasgow, free entry and £5 a nibble. The Drygate Brewery is showcasing some cool beers through Craft Beer Rising £12.

In Nottingham chatty man Alan Carr takes to the stage at the Royal Concert Hall with his Yap, Yap, Yap tour, 8pm.
