More than just little samba – Our weekend guide to what’s on

This Sunday prepare for a barrel of laughs at The Lemon Tree as Edinburger Iain Stirling brings his stand up show touchy feely to the stage. The former Edinburgh Uni law student got to the finals in Paramount Funniest Student and Chortle Student Comedian Of The Year competitions at his final year.

Outer space has been making the headlines so while you won’t see a black hole maybe it’s time for some stargazine. Head along to the Mills Observatory in Dundee Planetarium and learn more about the night sky, free but booking is essential.

This afternoon Neil Young inspired Max Jury takes it away at Underground, Stirling Students Union. He’s a pretty inspirational 23 year old who toured as Lana Del Ray’s support act and he’s just realised his self titled debut album, a pretty chill start to the weekend at 1pm this Friday afternoon.

In Glasgow it’s the final weekend of the annual show Futureproof at Hillhead Library, see glossy shots from emerging photographers hailing from art schools across Scotland. And it’s free!!

Get transported away in Edinburgh – Mardi Gras kicks off at Boteco Do Brasil at 10 o’clock tonight and the Brazilian carnival spirit keeps rocking until 3am. Students with ID can pick up a discounted £3 ticket. As well as two DJs keeping it going with Latin inspired tunes there will be samba dancers!

In Nottingham the circus is coming to town! Tickets range from £10 - £36 from Friday night – Wednesday you can see world class acrobatics. For something no less dramatic, but with slightly less dramatic costume head to the Theatre Royal for Willy Russells Blood Brothers, tickets £15 - £39.50.
