Fantastic Fundraising Efforts for Myeloma UK

In a previous blog post last month, we let you know that the Grant Property team would be raising funds for Myeloma UK throughout July - and we are delighted to say that we managed to raise £525 for the charity!

Myeloma UK are a charity that Marianne Wilson, our Letting Support Supervisor, supports on a regular basis, and like us, she is over the moon that we managed to raise so much money.

For those who don’t know, Myeloma is a type of cancer arising from plasma cells which are found in the bone marrow.

And the charity covers every aspect of myeloma - from information and support, to improving standards of treatment and care through research, education, campaigning and raising awareness.

The generosity shown by the team throughout the month was absolutely fantastic; we organised a range of activities, including a bake sale, a raffle, and special breakfasts and lunches, where all proceeds were donated to Myeloma UK.

We are delighted to have been able to play a small part in not only raising money for Myeloma UK, but raising awareness of this little known cancer.

Firefighters Keep Pushing for Charity

At Grant Property, we have regularly supported the The Scottish Fire & Rescue Service Charity Bed Push - and this year is no different!

The Bed Push, taking place this Sunday 3rd August, is organised by the kind hearted firefighers at Maryhill Fire Station in Glasgow, and all funds raised on the day are donated to the Kelbourne Park School kids.

Kelbourne Park School provides nursery and primary education for children who have additional support needs due to a physical impairment, as well as those who have additional support needs related to language or vision.

The school provides a multi-disciplinary approach, with a range of medical and therapy staff on hand to support the children.

So what is a Bed Push?

On Sunday 3rd of August, some of the kids of Kelbourne Park School will get their beds transformed into a 'fire engine' by the BBC props department, which will then be raced through the streets by the firefighters.

The Grant Property Glasgow branch have went along to various Charity Bed Push's in the past, and it's a fantastic way of raising funds for the school.

Most importantly though, the kids always have great fun!

Over the years, the firefighters have raised over a whopping £40,000 and we are are proud to be sponsoring one of the beds and be part of such a worthwhile cause.

If you would like to donate to this cause or to find out more information please email firefighter Stephen at stephen.bates@strathclydefire.org or call him on 0141 946 223.

We will hopefully have some photos from the day online next week, so make sure you 'like' Grant Property on Facebook and follow us on Twitter to see how much fun we had on the day.

Grant Property Supports Myeloma UK

We have discussed in previous blog posts that Grant Property regularly spread our generosity across various charities, and for the month of July, we will be supporting Myeloma UK, the only organisation in the UK dealing exclusively with myeloma.

For those who don’t know, Myeloma is a type of cancer arising from plasma cells which are found in the bone marrow.

And Myeloma UK, a charity that Marianne Wilson, our Letting Support Supervisor, supports on a regular basis, covers every aspect of myeloma - from information and support, to improving standards of treatment and care through research, education, campaigning and raising awareness.

Just last month, it was Myeloma Awareness Week and this interesting and informative video, which you can view below, was created to explain more about myeloma and the services that the charity provides.

We have received our Myeloma UK fundraising pack which includes banners, balloons, t-shirts and pens, so the Grant Property office is going to be decorated BRIGHT ORANGE (the charity’s colour) throughout July!

We will also have a range of activities, including a bake sale, a raffle, and special breakfasts and lunches, where all proceeds will be donated to Myeloma UK.

In addition to this, our staff pay to dress down each Friday, and these donations will also be put toward Myeloma UK.

Not only should we be able to raise a considerable amount of money for Myeloma UK, but we will hopefully also raise awareness of this little known cancer.

We will upload pictures and information on our progress throughout the month, so make sure you ‘like’ us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter to keep up-to-date.

Living in Stirling with Grant Property

Grant Property have been providing accommodation across many parts of the UK for years.

We don’t just see our job as providing you with somewhere warm and dry to lay your head, we want to provide you with a home where you feel happy, comfortable and safe.

An area we operate in is the city of Stirling. So, the purpose of this blog is to share with you what we know about living in Stirling so you can decide if this is the city for you.

Lifestyle

Many people refer to Stirling as a mini version of the country’s capital, Edinburgh - of course a much cheaper version.

Like Edinburgh, the city has an air of history surrounding it. And, of course, there are many cobbled streets which are home to old, stone buildings, transporting you back a few centuries.

Although historic, the city also has a metropolitan and modern feel to it. This gives inhabitants of the city the best of both worlds - something not a lot of cities can offer.

Those living in the city enjoy a lifestyle which is unrivalled anywhere else in Scotland. The residents get the best of both world's - a bit of traditional Scotland (at a reasonable price), and a part of a really modern and emerging city, which makes this a lovely and enjoyable place to live.

Stirling is not far from Bannockburn, the site where we sent Prince Edward homeward and kept Scotland for ourselves! 2014 will see the 700th Anniversary of the battle and there is a project underway to renovate or revisit the battle in new ways and will become a tourist attraction that will allow tourists to experience ‘medieval warfare like never before’!

Nightlife

Stirling is home to a number of great nightclubs as well as bars and the club scene is also similar to that of Glasgow. Dusk, formerly known as Enigma recently underwent a massive £250,000 renovation and is a great nightclub if you are planning on staying out until 3am!

If your night is a little bit more relaxed but still in the mood for a bit of clubbing there are still venues for you. The City Walls closes at 1am and requires ‘smart dress if you don’t want to stand out from the crowd’.

Although Stirling doesn't have as many clubs as the likes of Edinburgh, there is still something for everyone here. One of the most popular clubs amongst the city’s student population is Fubar, which is in the very heart of the city.

Entertainment

Stirling has many things to see and do. The two obvious activities would be to visit the famous Stirling Castle, and the Wallace Monument - a homage to one of Scotland’s greatest sons, and subject matter for the Oscar-winning Hollywood epic, Braveheart, William Wallace.

However, there’s more than those two attractions in the city. Not far from the heart of the city, you’ll find Blairdrummond Safari Park. There, you’ll be able to drive past a number of wild animals, including Lions and tigers. The park also houses two very large elephants and has many outdoor activities too.

There are cinemas in the city too, along with theatres and ten pin bowling.

These attractions, along with the busy night-life should make Stirling a hit with young professionals and/or students who work hard, and play hard.

To check our availability in Stirling, or to find out a bit more about the city, contact our Stirling Office on 01786 463646 or send an email to stirling@grantproperty.com.

Living in Edinburgh with Grant Property

At Grant Property, we've provided homes in Scotland’s capital for a long time and have learnt more than most about the city's hotspots.

As you have no doubt seen from our previous blog posts, we want to share our knowledge with you so that when it comes to making a decision of where to live, you'll be sure it's the right one.

Lifestyle

Edinburgh has lots of fashionable shops, and is also home to the famous Princes Street, which offers many high-street shopping destinations, as well as hip arts and crafts, cutting-edge fashion and unique Scottish jewellery.

With all the history which surrounds the city, you’ll never be stuck for things to see and do. There are tours, walks, and museums you can visit including a worthwhile trip to Edinburgh Castle where you can see the whole city!

Edinburgh offers some of the best restaurants in Scotland and is building a reputation for supplying the best European cuisine. If you’re looking for a tasty bite to eat, Edinburgh has lots to offer, from the famous Hard Rock Cafe on George Street to great little pubs and bistros throughout the city.

Nightlife

The capital has a breathtaking amount of bars and clubs. You don’t realise at first, but down nearly every lane and alleyway, there’s a pub or club to suit all your needs.

Take your pick from exclusive bars and clubs on George Street and Rose Street, to the Grassmarket where you can find trendy and relaxed bars such as the Dragonfly, Beehive Comedy Club or the Blue Blazer.

Whatever your taste, Edinburgh has an abundance of bars and clubs suited to everyone.

Entertainment

Edinburgh plays host to the world's largest comedy festival, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, throughout August, bringing acts such as Ricky Gervais and Bill Bailey to the many venues scattered throughout the city.

If you would rather scream with terror than with laughter, why not visit the truly horrifying Edinburgh Dungeons located under the city? Alternatively, there are tours of the underground performed by Auld Reekie tours which can be light-hearted and informative, or if you're brave enough, you can opt for the dark and frightening Ghost Tours.

As well as all this, you can also climb Arthur’s Seat, an extinct volcano located just outside the city, visit Our Dynamic Earth or visit the pandas at Edinburgh Zoo!

So, if Edinburgh sounds like your kind of city, visit our website and check our availability or contact our Edinburgh office on 0131 220 6360 or at edinburgh@grantproperty.com. In addition, you can also keep up-to-date with what we're doing via Facebook and Twitter
