Living in Glasgow with Grant Property

Earlier this month, we started our series of blog posts, ‘Living In....’ - which looks at the various cities that Grant Property operate in - by delving into the lifestyle, nightlife and entertainment of Aberdeen.

In this week’s blog post, we are featuring Scotland’s biggest city, Glasgow.

Having provided properties in Glasgow for as long as we have, we have certainly learnt a lot about the 'Dear Green Place', so we wanted to share this knowledge with you to help you make an informed decision when picking your next home.

Lifestyle

Glasgow has been transformed from being a huge industrial city to being one of the UK’s most metropolitan cities - while still staying true to its industrial roots.

A wee visit to one of the many museums dotted around the city would definitely be worth a visit, and to make them even more attractive, they are usually FREE. Whether you’re young or old, the newly renovated Transport Museum or the Kelvinbridge Museum both provide a great day out.

In regards to eating out, there is everything you could hope for. There is a large range of restaurants, cafés and bars spanning from the city centre to the trendy West End, in which Ashton Lane is situated, home to many bars including the revered Grosvenor bar/café/cinema.

Shopping

Second only to London throughout the rest of the UK, Glasgow really is a shopper’s paradise.

‘The Style Mile’, home to Glasgow’s best known streets (Argyle Street, Buchanan Street and Sauchiehall Street) is home to an enviable collection of malls, independent boutiques, unique designer stores and international retailers.

Other must-see areas for shopaholics include Merchant City, Braehead Shopping Centre and Silverburn Shopping Centre.

Nightlife

Living in Glasgow, you will have your pick of some of the UK’s best bars and nightclubs.

Within the city centre, areas such as Merchant City, Royal Exchange Square, Bath Street and Sauchiehall Street boast a diverse range of traditional pubs, trendy bars and student nightclubs, while the West End’s popular Ashton Lane is filled to the brim with bars such as The Loft and Vodka Wodka.

Glasgow has also played host to some of the world’s biggest bands, artists and DJs, playing in venues such as The Arches, Subclub, the famous Barrowlands, and King Tuts Wah Wah Hut - often hailed as one of the best live venues in the UK.

Entertainment

Want to see that latest Hollywood blockbuster? You can choose from one of Glasgow’s many cinemas, including two iMAX screens - one of which is the height of two double-decker buses.

If you enjoy a good laugh, there are a few comedy clubs in the city too, one of which, The Stand, regularly sees many established comedians, such as Frankie Boyle and Kevin Bridges, turning up unannounced to try out their new material.

So, if Glasgow sounds like a place you’d feel at home in, visit our website, and check our availability in the city.
