What's on this Halloween

Scotland’s full of ghost stories and spooky haunted castles and creaky old houses. It’s great for scaring your friends but Halloween weekend’s set to be great fun too! Whatever you’re dressing up as this Halloween there are chilling parties everywhere – get out there, and get scaring.

It’s the sixth year of the legendary Halloween party Let itBleed at The Forum in Aberdeen. With plenty of practise these guys know how to throw a Halloween shindig, and it’s open til 4am. For a less themed evening head to Aberdeen Music Hall for Catfish and the Bottlemen – or both.

In Dundee Fat Sams is looking after Halloween – get your fancy dress on and dance the night away.

At Fubar all week it’s Carnevil time – on Friday night get creative with your fancy dress for the chance to win prizes, on Saturday Cirque du Carnevil comes to town with DJ Jonny Ruiz and on Sunday there’s a chance to play some creepy and twisted carnival games to round off the week.

On the west coast it’s Trancelate Halloween with Menno De Jong on Saturday night at 69 Below in Glasgow.

Get involved in the Zombie Walk if you’re out in Edinburgh – a huge fancy dress pub crawl. The best zombie get up will win a prize and you’ll visit 10 bars with VIP entry.

In Nottingham Rock City is open til dawn on Sunday for its Halloween all-nighter Welcome to the Asylum. Get the most out of your costume and stick it out to the end.

In Edinburgh this weekend Sigma are at the Liquid Rooms on Friday and Nightvision and Mr Scruff present Keep It Unreal at La Belle Angele until 3am, tickets are just £14.

For something off the beaten track around Glasgow jump on a train to Paisley and out of your comfort zone to see Daniel Sloss on Saturday at The Haunt Bar, 8pm. Alternatively stay in town for i am a raver at 69 Below from 9pm – 3am.

If you’re in England’s home of sport this weekend why not head along to Bulwell Riverside for the weekly cycle centre. At 12 there’s a led ride, exploring the local area – the perfect way to get to know the city better.

I Love Weekend - Our guide to what's on in your city

The semester has started but there’s still loads to do before the heavy coursework sets in! Or perhaps you’re already needing a break from the early starts and late nights! Whatever the reason, there is lots to do across the UK this weekend.

What better festival/event for students over the weekend than Oktoberfest in Edinburgh? Eat, Drink and be German - Edinburgh will celebrate the age-old Bavarian celebration of beer and sausages in style. Find out more here, and don't worry, Edinburgh isn't the only city that will be officially celebrating it. Aberdeen, Glasgow and Dundee.

If you prefer your Japanese animation to your beer, then there is the 'Scotland Loves Animation' festival over the next week or so. If you are based in or near Glasgow or Edinburgh and are a fan of your Studio Ghiblis or your Production I.G's then this event will be right for you!

Weird Al Yankovic, the master of the musical parody and the artist who brought you 'White and Nerdy', Amish Paradise and Eat It, is bringing his world tour, world-class comedy to Glasgow for one night only. We have checked the website and there are still tickets available, and although he may never stop making musical parodies, it would give you HUGE bragging rights to say you've seen him in person.

In Aberdeen you can get your mosh on at the Union Street Music Hall on Saturday to Bullet For My Valentine, or you can rock out to old school Scottish rockers, Gun at the Aberdeen Garage on Friday.

You can laugh your socks off at Just Laugh the Dundee Rep Centre tonight from 8pm. Or if you want to have yourself a nice little hoedown then head down to The Whitehall Theatre for the superstar voice of Irish Americana singer, Jimmy Buckley.

I Love Weekend - Our guide to what's on in your city

The semester has started but there’s still loads to do before the heavy coursework sets in! Or perhaps you’re already needing a break from the early starts and late nights! Whatever the reason, there is lots to do across the UK this weekend.

The Tunnels in Aberdeen plays host to Wheatus on October 2nd - so “come with me Friday, don’t say maybe”.

Meanwhile the Flaming Tease Burlesque and Cabaret show celebrates their fourth birthday at Fubar in Stirling on Saturday the 3rd. With tickets from £6, this is a night not to be missed!

For an alternative to a night out, visit the Edinburgh playhouse this Friday for a production of The Bodyguard, straight from London’s West End!

If you are more into music, more specifically rap and grime, then you might want to catch Westwood at Shanghai club. The Radio DJ left BBC Radio 1 in 2013 after nearly 20 years and has moved to Capital Xtra on Saturday nights but still puts on one heck of a show.

If it isn't sold out then you should definitely head down to the Oran Mor on Saturday 3rd October for Rae Morris. Her debut album came out earlier this year and has garnered much praise from critics and even scoring a 77 on Metacritic. She has promise to be the next Ellie Goulding with a hint of Florence and the Machine so she is definitely worth checking out.

In Dundee you can watch the Rugby World Club live in Liar at DUSA including the Scotland vs South Africa and England vs Australia matches, both on Saturday evening.

In Glasgow, the Barras welcome the Braw Wee Fair for all things art and design on Saturday from 10am ’til 5pm. Rae Morris is also playing at Oran Mor on Friday 2nd October, so go and see the singer who performed at Glastonbury and is only 19 years old!

Meanwhile, in Nottingham, The Doghouse hosts the Aces High Festival, showcasing independent and underground artists from across the UK. This small festival takes place both Saturday and Sunday so no need to make any other weekend plans. Purchase a £10 day ticket for either day or a full weekend pass for £15!
