Introducing Raeesa Ijaz - Saltire Foundation - Receptionist and Property Management Intern

Name Raeesa Ijaz
Studying Pharmacology at the University of Glasgow
Role Receptionist/Property management intern.

What would you be doing with your summer if you weren’t here?

If I wasn’t a part of the Saltire foundation this summer I would most likely be doing a life sciences related internship or doing voluntary work abroad.

So far what’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your internship?

Probably the biggest challenge has been adjusting to full time working hours after getting spoiled by flexible timetables as a student. Plus handling rail disruptions and extended travelling but all part of the fun of acting like an adult this summer.

What have you most enjoyed?

The most enjoyable aspect of being an intern at Grant Property has to be working with such a great team. The staff have been beyond helpful and lovely and made me feel part of the team immediately. Although they are very busy, they are always on hand to help and give advice when needed.

As a new member of the Grant Property team what has impressed you most about the company since you started?

The most impressive aspect has to be the efficiency and cohesion of so many different
departments and sub-contractors working together to efficiently make sure properties are ready and tenants are happy. There is a lot happening behind the scenes and it has been interesting gaining an insight into that.

What three top tips would you share with students thinking about applying for the Saltire Foundation next year?

1. Prepare as early and thoroughly as you can. Read up on the Saltire Foundation and
their aims – It is a very competitive process and lack of preparation can seriously hinder
chances of getting in.

2. Don’t be afraid to put yourself forward for positions that you don’t have experience in. This is the perfect time to acquire skills in a new field and learn more about other sectors.

3. SELL YOURSELF!! You are your own brand and need to advertise your skills and talents as well as you possibly can. Scholars are determined and ambitious and the internship is an excellent platform to network and improve your business skills.
